Our Own Village’s mission is to improve the quality of life in the black community through supporting economic opportunities and sustainability, ensuring access to culturally competent education and health care resources, and creating opportunities for community building.

Our Core Values

Equity and Inclusion: We are dedicated to advocating for positive change. We are committed to promoting and advocating for equality in all aspects of society. We stand against discrimination, prejudice, and systemic racism and work towards creating a community where Black People have equal access to opportunities and representation.

Unity: We value intergenerational connectivity and recognize the wisdom, experiences, and contributions of elders, as well as the potential and energy of younger generations. We recognize the importance of building a strong and supportive community. We foster connections, collaboration, and solidarity among Black People, encouraging unity, mutual respect and celebrating diverse experiences and perspectives.

Self-determination: We believe in empowering Black People to embrace their identity, culture, and heritage and to recognize their inherent worth and potential. We strive to provide resources, education, and opportunities that enable individuals and communities to thrive, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves.

Collective Work and Responsibility: We believe in the power of collaboration and partnership. We stive to build and maintain our community together and to collaborate with other organizations, institutions, and individuals who share our goals and values, recognizing that collective efforts are essential for creating lasting change.

Cooperative Economics: We are committed to promoting economic empowerment within the Black community. We support initiatives that increase access to economic opportunities, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and wealth creation, aiming to reduce socioeconomic disparities.

Education and Awareness: We believe in the power of knowledge and understanding. We strive to raise awareness about Black People's history, achievements, and contributions, as well as the community's challenges and obstacles. We promote education, research, and dialogue as tools for combating ignorance and fostering empathy.

Health and Wellness: We prioritize the health and well-being of Black People. We advocate for equitable access to quality healthcare, mental health resources, and culturally competent care. We promote healthy lifestyles, preventive measures, and awareness of community healthcare disparities.
